Expert: John Mayer's Jennifer Aniston Kiss and Tell "an Ego Thing"

Apparently, John Mayer angered Jennifer Aniston's pals when he told photographers over the weekend that he "ended" the relationship.

"He’s acting like a spoiled child," an Aniston pal snipped to MSNBC's Courtney Hazlett. "Expect Jen to behave like a lady.” (Incidentally, the source adds, “it’s she who ended the relationship.")

So what made Mayer dish about the dumping?

"It's a pride and ego thing," Lee Kane, author of How to Be a Professional Bachelor, tells Usmagazine.com. "I think it makes him temporarily feel better. He's either hurt or has gotten hurt — otherwise he wouldn't have gone out of his way in talking to the media."

Mayer has a habit about blabbing about his exes.

• He joked about his sex life with Jennifer Love Hewitt after they split (he later apologized).

• Following his split with Jessica Simpson, he blogged a letter to an "ex lover," writing, "perhaps you didn't understand the last time I told you to stop contacting me." (The post only fueled Internet speculation that he was referring to Simpson; he later said he wasn't.)

Kane tells Us while it's "immature talking about his conquests," it has to do with "the dominant male psyche.

"He wants to feel that he's in charge and that he's making all the decisions," Kane explains.

Mayer's latest blab session should be a warning to single ladies in Hollywood.

Says Kane, "Anyone who tries to settle a man like that down is barking up the wrong tree."
